Back to School Morning Breakfast http://www.idealnutrition.ca/2009/08/27/back-to-school-morning-breakfast/ http://www.idealnutrition.ca/2009/08/27/back-to-school-morning-breakfast/#comments Thu, 27 Aug 2009 20:32:00 +0000 catharine http://ideal.dev-10.net/?p=177 A delicious muesli breakfast

This is a delicious and healthy start to everyone’s day. The best part is it can be made the night before and can be adjusted to your preference. It helps to have a large plastic airtight container to store it in.

8 large handfuls of organic rolled oats

2 large handfuls of ground bran

1 handful chopped apricots

1 handful  chopped dried dates (other dried fruits can be substituted like cranberries, cherries etc)

1 handful crumbled walnuts

1 handful of chopped or smashed almonds, hazelnuts etc

Add oats and bran to plastic container with dried fruits. Add the nuts. (At this point you can improvise with your own choices) This mixture will keep in airtight container for a couple of months.

The night before you want to serve this:

milk to cover

1/2 crunchy apple per person, washed and unpeeled

Place double the amount of the composed cereal into a bowl (ie 4 portions for 2 people). Doubling gives you enough to eat for the next couple of days. Cover with milk, grate about 1/2 an apple per person and stir immediately to keep the apple from discoloring. Place in the fridge.

Ready to Eat:

Remove bowl from fridge and add 1/2 a banana per person. You can add a bit of honey but taste it first. Serve with a dollop of yogurt and mixed berries. ENJOY!!
